For the first time ever, 3D printing is now being integrated as a service for academic functions on CSB and SJU campuses. Supported by Media Services, our 3D printers and software tools can help provide new creative opportunities for 3D modeling, design and visual-learning applications. Custom designs can be created using our dedicated software programs SketchUp or AutoCAD, and then physically made on one of our 3D printers. Models are shaped using a biodegradable plastic filament that is extruded in thin layers until the object is completed.
For CSB/SJU students and faculty alike, our 3D technology is a great way to approach a broad range of educational uses. From demonstrating abstract mathematical and scientific concepts to physically printing models for use in classrooms, our 3D printing services deliver a visually engaging, hands-on learning experience. Since its implementation, departments like biology, math, physics, chemistry and art have already utilized our printer and software.
