Language Tutor/Teaching Assistant Modern and Classical Languages Department
Application
Qualifications:
- Student employees should have completed courses above 311 or 312, which means functional proficiency in French, German, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Japanese or Chinese.
- The tutor must have the ability to communicate grammatical and stylistic points to students in 100 or 200 level courses.
- Tutors should have traveled or lived abroad to solidify language basis.
- S/he should be able to teach effectively on a one-to-one basis and to conduct small group sessions.
- S/he must be willing to attend tutoring workshops provided by the MCLL Department.
- Internet skills, particularly homepage construction skills, are beneficial.
Responsibilities:
- Primary responsibility is assisting students with their language studies.
- Includes regular review and drill work, correction activities and help in preparing for exams.
- Correcting quizzes and exams using keys provided by MCLL faculty.
- General office or teacher assistance such as duplicating, phone answering, mailing and errands.
- Tutor/TA may also be requested to conduct research for professors.
