Nakhleh retired from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) in 2006, after 15 years of service, where he served several roles. Prior to joining the CIA in 1991, Nakhleh taught for 26 years at Mount St. Mary's University in Maryland, where he was the John L. Morrison Professor of International Studies and a department chair. Nakhleh, a Catholic Arab from Nazareth, Israel, has traveled extensively in the Middle East and the Muslim world. Nakhleh received a bachelor's degree in political science from SJU. He has a master's from Georgetown University and a doctorate from the American University. The McCarthy Center seeks to engage the campus and wider community in debate and discourse regarding public policy and public affairs.
