Twin Cities Study Tour: Immigrant Communities of Minnesota

Proposal
Our study tour will focus on immigration in Minnesota. The trip will allow students interested in public policy to see the political, economic, and cultural impact that the three largest immigrant populations have on the state of Minnesota (Hispanic, Hmong, and Somali). Goals include a tour of a farmers or flea market, non-profit or other organizations which serve or employ the communities, immigrant-owned small businesses, and interaction with relevant government institutions.
Tentative Schedule
- 10 a.m. - Leave CSB/SJU
- 11:30 a.m. - Arrive at Mercado Central
1515 East Lake Street, Minneapolis - 1:45 p.m. - Lunch at Karmel Mall
2910 Pillsbury Avenue, Minneapolis
Rountable discussion will include community leaders, advocates, policymakers, and social service providers.
Time for exploration. - 3:45 p.m. - Conclude discussion and depart for Saint Paul
