General Info for Volunteers

Volunteers are an integral part of the syruping process at Saint John's. We need help with everything from tapping trees and sap collection, to cooking syrup and working at our festivals. Below are a few things to know about being a maple syruping volunteer.

• Email is the best way we communicate with our volunteers. If you would like to join our email list, please contact arboretum@csbsju.edu
• We also update the maple syruping website with semi-daily announcements for volunteer help. See the 'Daily Update' section on the upper right corner of the home page.
• It is important to us to know how many hours volunteers are putting in during the syruping season. Please be sure to record your name and hours in the Volunteer Book located in the sugar shack.
• We recommend walking out to the shack as the road is plowed, but often muddy and rough. Please see the 'Directions' section on the upper right corner of the home page.
• As the weather can vary greatly during the syruping season, you will want to wear the proper clothing: boots, jacket, hat, gloves, etc... It is recommended to wear wool and dress in layers.
• There is a portable bathroom out at the sugar shack.
