Koch Chair in Catholic Thought and Culture

Serving the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University

The Koch Chair in Catholic Thought and Culture supports a professor distinguished by his or her knowledge of and commitment to the importance of the Catholic college's role in bringing faith into dialogue with culture. The professor is responsible for assisting the campus community in the development of its own understanding of Catholicism's contribution to the academic disciplines.

The concept of the Koch Chair is unusual within Catholic higher education because most institutions offer Catholic teaching within a single department. The intention of the Koch Chair is to provide opportunities for faculty, staff and students to gain an enriched understanding of the heritage of Catholic thought that has shaped not only the faith tradition of CSB/SJU but also the pursuit of knowledge across disciplines.

The Koch Chair sponsors a lecture series and other events aimed at engaging members of the campus community in dialogue on Catholic thought in relationship to a variety of current issues.
