Student-Owned Technology Policy
- IT Services will provide assistance to on-campus students connecting their personal computers to the campus network when:
- Students have already made a good-faith effort to make the connection on their own. (See Connection Booklets for instructions.)
- The computer meets the minimum requirements set forth by IT Services. (See Requirements for Student Owned Computers Connecting to the CSB/SJU Network.)
- The computer's operating system and equipment are operable. If the computer will not boot up, IT Services does not repair faulty student-owned equipment, software, or operating system files.
- IT Services does not provide assistance to students installing, repairing, or upgrading personal equipment including, but not limited to, the following: hard drives, sound cards, printers, speakers, scanners, digital cameras, and personal digital assistants (PDAs).
- IT Services does not provide assistance to students installing, repairing, or upgrading software other than the Microsoft Office Suite and Symantec AntiVirus on personal equipment. - IT Services does not provide assistance to students installing, repairing, or upgrading an operating system on personal equipment.
- Students are responsible for keeping their personal computers virus-free. Students who are knowingly or unknowingly propagating viruses on the network will be disconnected from the campus network as stated in the Terms and Conditions for the Use of Information Technology Resources. - Students shall adhere to the Terms and Conditions for the Use of Information Technology Resources, current copyright laws, and licensing agreements for any technology used on college property or in the name of the College of Saint Benedict/St. John's University, regardless of ownership of the workstation or device.
