Employee-Owned Technology Policy
Employees that bring technology not owned by the college to campus must adhere to the following provisions:
- Equipment brought from home or purchased outside IT Services can not be connected to any college equipment or networks without the consent and involvement of IT Services. This includes multi-function printers. See Hardware Standards for more information.
- Personal computers must conform to the current network, application and operating system standards. Anti-Virus software (Symantec Norton Anti-Virus) must be installed on the system. A network services fee will be incurred for network access.
- Personal Digital Assistants (PDA) vary in the type and the time required for installation. IT Services will attempt to connect PDA devices; however some are incompatible with the current network software configuration. Therefore, a successful connection cannot be guaranteed. Depending on the device and time required an applicable setup fee may be incurred.
- Printers and scanners need to be approved by IT Services prior to connection. Devices will be charged an annual network services fee.
- IT Services does not provide assistance to employees installing, repairing, or upgrading personal equipment including, but not limited to, the following: hard drives, sound cards, speakers, digital cameras, digital video cameras, and flash drives.
- IT Services does not provide assistance to employees installing, repairing, or upgrading an operating system on personal equipment.
- IT Services discourages the installation of non-standard software on college equipment. If software is installed on your workstation and it is determined that it is not compatible, it will either be removed or the workstation will be reimaged. It must follow the Local Data Storage and Software Policy.
- Employees shall adhere to the Terms and Conditions for the Use of Information Technology Resources, current copyright laws, and licensing agreements for any technology used on college property or in the name of the College of Saint Benedict/St. John's University, regardless of ownership of the workstation or device.
