Configure Junk E-mail Filters in Outlook Web Access
Use the instructions below to configure the junk e-mail filters in Outlook Web Access (OWA).
Disable or Enable Junk E-mail Filtering
Note: Junk E-mail filtering is enabled for all users by default. Be sure to check the Junk E-mail folder in your folder list regularly to ensure that you do not miss messages that you want to receive.
- Log into OWA. (See Web Browser Access to Outlook for instructions.)
- From the navigation pane on the left, click the Options button.
- Scroll down to the Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention section.
- Use the checkbox next to Filter Junk E-mail. Check the Junk E-mail folder regularly to ensure that you do not miss messages that you want to receive to enable or disable junk e-mail filtering.
- Important: After making any changes in the Options section of OWA, you must click the Save and Close button at the top of the window, or your changes will not be saved and will not take effect.
Add Senders to Your Blocked Senders List or Safe Senders List
Tip: To quickly add a sender to either of these lists, right-click a message from the sender, and click Add Sender to Safe Senders List or Add Sender to Blocked Senders List.
- Log into OWA. (See Web Browser Access to Outlook for instructions.)
- From the navigation pane on the left, click the Options button.
- Scroll down to the Privacy and Junk E-mail Prevention section.
- Click Manage Junk E-mail Lists.
- Click the View or Modify list drop-down to modify your Safe Senders, Safe Recipients, and Blocked Senders lists.
- Safe Senders list – E-mail addresses and domains (i.e. attglobal.net or astound.net) you add to this list will never be considered junk.
- Safe Recipients list – E-mail addresses and domains you add to this list will never be considered junk.
- Blocked Senders list - E-mail addresses and domains you add to this list will always be considered junk.
- Important: After making any changes in the Options section of OWA, you must click the Save and Close button at the top of the window, or your changes will not be saved and will not take effect.
Empty the Junk E-mail Folder
- To empty the Junk E-mail folder, right-click it from your Folders list, and click Empty Junk E-mail.
