Set Up Outlook 2007 on Your Personal Computer
To use Outlook 2007 on your personal computer, your computer must meet the following requirements:
- Microsoft Outlook 2007 must be installed. Contact the Computer Store at x2864 for information on purchasing Office 2007 with Outlook at an educational discount.
- Your operating system must be Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later.
- You must have an internet connection.
If your PC meets these requirements, follow the steps below to update Windows and configure Outlook 2007:

Configure Outlook 2007
- Close out of Outlook 2007 and all open messages, calendars, etc.
- From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
- Double-click the Mail icon.
- Click Show Profiles. (If there are currently no profiles set up, you will skip this step.)
- Click the Add button.
- In the Profile Name box, type your network username, and click OK.
- Leave the Auto Account Setup section blank.
- Checkmark the Manually configure server settings or additional server types box.
- Click Next.
- Choose Microsoft Exchange.
- Click Next.
- In the Microsoft Exchange Server box, type the appropriate Exchange server:
- Faculty and staff: EMPMAIL
- Students: STUMAIL
- Checkmark the Use Cached Exchange Mode box.
- In the User Name box, type your network username.
- Click More Settings.
- If prompted to log in, click Cancel.
- If you receive the following error, click OK, and then on the Microsoft Exchange dialog box, click Cancel.
- The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action.
- Click onto the Connection tab.
- Checkmark the Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP box.
- Click the Exchange Proxy Settings button.
- In the https:// box, type the following:
exchange.csbsju.edu - Checkmark the Connect using SSL only box.
- Uncheck the Only connect to proxy servers that have this principal name in their certificate box.
- Checkmark the On fast networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box.
- Checkmark the On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP box.
- From the Use this authentication when connecting to my proxy server for Exchange drop-down box, choose Basic Authentication.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
- If you receive a message that says you must restart Outlook for these changes to take effect, click OK.
- Click Next.
- Click Finish.
- On the Mail window, choose Always use this profile, and select the profile labeled with your network username from the drop-down list.
- Click OK.
- Start Outlook.
- When prompted to log in, enter the following:
- User name: ad\username
- Password: <<your network password>
- Outlook will connect to your CSB/SJU mailbox. It may take at least several minutes for Outlook to synchronize with the mail server.
- To avoid inadvertently downloading mail from your CSB/SJU e-mail account to your personal computer, IT Services recommends you follow the steps below to disable AutoArchive:
- From the Tools menu, click Options.
- Choose Other tab.
- Click AutoArchive.
- Uncheck Run AutoArchive every n days.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.

If your personal Contacts do not appear after configuring Outlook, follow the instructions below for adding the Outlook Address Book:
- From the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
- Click onto the Address Books tab.
- Click New.
- Click Additional Address Books.
- Click Next.
- Choose Outlook Address Book.
- Click Next, and complete the wizard.
- Restart Outlook.
