American Association of University Women (AAUW) – Washington, DC ON-GOING
AAUW is a non-profit organization with a focus on promoting education and equality for women and girls. AAUW offers ongoing internships with exposure to opportunities that: enhance leadership, impact lives of women and children, promote higher education partnership, celebrate diversity, and foster international outreach. Description: Chrysalis is looking for three interns that will assist as: Legal & Resource Intern, Family Education Intern, or Resource Counseling Intern. These interns will have the opportunity to work with the lives of women and their families in diverse backgrounds. The intern may choose to work directly with the clients or have a broader role in the agency.
Legal & Resources Intern:
Descriptions: The Legal & Resource intern is responsible for assisting the LAW Program in providing education and advocacy to women by hosting LAW Clinics and Information Sessions, offering peer support in Resource Counseling.
Responsibilities: Intern will have to attend a 24-hour training program, facilitate two LAW Clinics and one LAW Information Session, and attend a volunteer in-service training.
Requirements: Interest in family law issues, ability to listen and respond appropriately to clients, respect of diversity, ability to work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality. A time commitment of 150 hours is required for the internship.
Family Education Intern:
Description: The Family Education intern is responsible for providing support to children and families through several Chrysalis programs.
Responsibilities: Intern will perform two four-hour shifts per month as a Sandcastles Facilitator Assistant as well as two four-hour shifts per week as a Resource Counselor. Intern will help children address feelings about divorce and also provide support and resources to women who walk in or call Chrysalis.
Requirements: Ability to listen and respond appropriately to clients, interest in working with children, respect of diversity, ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure. A time commitment of 10 hours per week for a total of 150 hours is required.
Resource Counseling Intern:
Description: The Resource Counseling Intern is responsible for providing support, information, and referral services to clients.
Responsibilities: Intern must attend a 24-hour Resource Counseling training program along with attending two “buddy shifts” and a Divorce Information Session. Intern must support clients and their issues and refer those who need further assistance to alternative agencies and organizations.
Requirements: Ability to listen and respond appropriately to clients, awareness of issues affecting women and families, awareness of diversity, and ability to work under pressure and maintain confidentiality. A time commitment of 150 hours is required.

Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) – Grand Forks, ND ON-GOING
CVIC supports adult and child victims of violence and promotes peace and safety by advocating the elimination of violence. The intern will plan and execute the CVIC’s first-ever Run for Peace to raise awareness of violence issues in the community and to raise funds for the CVIC’s Light of Hope Shelter. Interns should have strong communication skills, positive attitude, interest in the mission of CVIC and the ability to work well with others. Feminist Majority Foundation - Arlington, VA or Los Angeles, CA ON-GOING
Internships provide students with a behind-the-scenes look at the women's movement. Each internship includes a wide variety of responsibilities, such as monitoring press conferences and congressional hearings, researching, writing, policy analysis, organizing events and demonstrations, and clinic defense. Feminist women and men in all majors are encouraged to apply. Experience working on women's issues is preferred. Full-time Internships, which run for a minimum of two months, are available all year round. During the summer months there is some opportunity to earn pocket money by doing administrative work as needed. A number of their interns have received grants or financial aid from their schools to participate in the internship program.

*Business Women’s Network (BWN) – The Business Women’s Network focuses on the needs of women in business, nationally and internationally. Throughout various events, activities, and projects they provide women all over the world with opportunities, information, linkages and support. BWN wants to empower business women with the ability to make sound, profitable business decisions, which will ultimately lead to a stronger economy across all corporate and government borders. BWN interns should have an interest in international women’s issues related to business exports and trade.
*Diversity Best Practices (DBP) – Diversity Best Practices is a one-stop information center for Diversity and benchmarking. They organize peer-group workshops for their members addressing specific diversity issues (i.e. Mentoring and Leadership, and Multicultural Marketing). They are committed to voice the need to increase equity, equality, advancement, and retention in Corporate America for women and minorities (encompassing not only ethnic groups, but people who have been socially marginalized). Projects include event planning elements for day-long conference and awards dinner, diversity project support, diversity client file organizing, developing a diversity resource library, and organizing special project materials from diversity member files. DBP interns should have well-developed interpersonal skills, professional appearance and manner, is computer literate in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Internet applications. Experience with desktop publishing (PageMaker, Quark, PowerPoint) is preferred but not required.
*Best Practices in Corporate Communications (BPCC) – Best Practices in Corporate Communications builds relationships and develop innovative solutions, which help member companies utilize and improve communication. Interns can focus, but are not limited to, three areas of interest: research-based (helping to write reports and white papers), technology-based (maintaining the BPCC website – both in content and look), and sales/marketing-based (assisting selling the products and services of BPCC). WATCH – Minneapolis, MN ON-GOING
WATCH is seeking interns for a court monitoring position who are interested in criminal justice, domestic abuse, sexual assault, and child abuse issues. The interns’ responsibilities center on court monitoring, however interns may be involved in other projects involving research, volunteer coordination, event planning, data entry, administrative tasks, and community education. The intern will attend a 6 hour training session, attend scheduled court proceedings outlined by staff, follow WATCH court monitoring guidelines while in the courthouse, attend three community educational programs in relation to your work with WATCH, and submit a two-page reflection paper for possible publication. This is an 8-10 hour per week position that is unpaid. The opportunity is available in the spring, with an application deadline of January 16, in the summer with an application deadline of June 2, and in the fall with an application deadline of September 15.

The Women’s Sports Foundation is a non-profit organization offering internships in the following departments: advocacy, athlete services, special events, program management, development, marketing, education programs, public relations, publications, and the web. Chrysalis is looking for several fall interns to work with women and their families to improve their lives. Chrysalis is an organization that works to organize resources and support so women and children can lead healthy lives. There are several intern positions which need to be filled. The child care intern will assist with the direct care of infants, children and youth registered in the Kids’ Cocoon Child Care program. The intern will also be responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of the program. The intern will prepare with the head teacher to work with the children and prepare their meals. Ongoing training concerning the knowledge of issues affecting women will be provided. Interested students should have previous experience working with children, awareness of the issues surrounding children and families, awareness and respect for diversity, the ability to work with volunteers/staff and the ability to climb down steps and lift 30 pounds. The Minnesota Women’s Political Caucus Education Council’s E-Women Win, a project of the Minnesota Women’s Political Caucus Education Council (MWPC-EC), is an Internet community of multi-partisan individuals dedicated to making women’s voices a force on public policy issues in Minnesota. Duties include, but are not limited to, researching various women’s issues, searching for and finding relevant news articles, writing content for the weekly “e-lert” sent out by E-Women Win and performing regular upkeep of the organization’s website. Someplace Safe Parenting Time Centers – Fergus Falls, MN
Project Description: Develop and implement a coordinated volunteer program including a volunteer training manual, training program structure and materials for the Parenting Time Center, a visiting center for parents and children experiencing domestic abuse.

The organization’s Women’s Fund, a Central Minnesota community foundation, is piloting software that will help manage team communication, planning, events, and volunteers. WomanSafe Center – Faribault, MN
WomanSafe Center works to prevent child abuse, sexual assault, and domestic violence in Rice County, MN. The organization provides rehabilitative services to victims of abuse and works for systematic change to reduce the risk of violence against women and children. Interns will research, design, and implement a plan to successfully build transitional housing in the Rice County. It will entail building community partnerships and obtaining funding and public and political support for the project. The purpose of this project is to lay the ground work to meet the immediate need for transitional housing for battered woman and children in Rice County. Interns must be trained advocates as defined by the State of Minnesota (requires a 52 hour course). This paid opportunity is offered through HECUA for summer 2003. YWCA of St. Paul – St. Paul, MN
The YWCA is offering three volunteer internships for this summer. The first is with the Health and Fitness Center where one will promotional and physical well-being to a wide variety of people. One will assist with the set-up, promotions, and execution of the 5K Run while combining the community and the organization interactions. They are seeking individuals majoring in management, health and wellness, or business. This is a 10 week position. The responsibilities of the intern in this next position include assisting with case management and office duties and providing supportive services and training to women and children in the Transitional Housing Program. Individuals interested in this position should be majoring in human services and have an understanding of homelessness issues. This is a three month opportunity. The third opportunity is with the Two-Gether Program as a Girl’s Mentor Recruitment intern. One will be responsible for media relations, provide companionship and encouragement to build girl’s self-esteem, and promote healthy development. This is also a 10 week commitment, Monday through Friday. Applications for each position are available on-line.
