APAICS Summer Internship Program – Washington, D.C. ON-GOING
APAICS is a non-partisan, non-profit, educational organization whose mission is to promote the participation of Asian American and Pacific Islanders in the political process. Through the internship, APAICS hopes to encourage the political and civic involvement of young people, to foster their interest in political and public policy-related careers, and to develop their leadership skills. The internship will run from June to July with a $2,500 stipend.
Qualifications: Interest in the political process, public policy issues and Asian American and Pacific Islander community affair. Evidence of leadership abilities and excellent oral and written communication skills. Current enrollment in accredited undergraduate educational institution. (Recent graduates – within 90 days prior to June are also welcome. U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency by June. 18 years old by June. Submission of all applications materials (Part I and Part II) by January 31, 2006.

American Junior Golf Association – Braselton, GA ON-GOING
The American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. The internship is offered from May through September. The intern will travel extensively throughout the United States during the internship and will help conduct national junior golf tournaments. The intern will also be responsible for: on-course rule officiating, golf course set-up and preparation, preparing each tournament’s printed materials, media and public relations, and public speaking. The intern should have basic knowledge of the rules of golf, experience in sports information, working knowledge of PC computers, excellent news writing and editing skills, and ability to drive and operate company vans. Expenses that will be paid by the company are: travel time during work, meals, hotel accommodations and laundry. The intern will be responsible for: personal travel expenses, personal calls, and hotel amenities. This is a paid position at $200 per week. The American Red Cross in St. Paul is offering an unpaid internship in the spring as an Aquatics Educational Intern where the student will assist with marketing and public relations. The intern will work with the Water Safety Committee to develop a resource that connects professionals in the public school system to Red Cross programs and provides updated information on the St. Paul Red Cross. Students studying in education, public health, community health education, parks and recreation, communication, psychology, marketing, human services, or a related field are encouraged to apply. The Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) Local 33 is in need of an intern to assist in the communications/public relations needs of the union. AMFA is the union representative for the technicians, custodians and cleaners of Northwest and Mesaba Airlines. Duties may include: assisting in the production of a monthly newsletter, communications to the members, researching topics, assembling media releases, working with a public relations firm to promote AMFA, and working with the local and national media. Applicants must be an upperclassman or undergraduate working on a major in journalism, communications or media. The position requires excellent writing, editing and research skills along with computer skills in the PC platform. A minimum of 16 hours per week is required. Arthritis Walk Public Relations and Marketing Intern ON-GOING
Description: Intern will assist with the development, management, implementation and evaluation of the St. Cloud Arthritis Walk communication and marketing plans.
Responsibilities: Assists with coordination of communications and marketing for special events, programs and services, and assists in the development of PSA’s, new releases, invitations, programs, catalogs, posters, flyers and event specific newsletters, assists with establishment and cultivation of working relationships with tri-county media personnel, including sponsorship for the Arthritis Walk and Arthritis Awareness Month.

Arts Midwest is looking for a development intern to provide support for all fundraising activities of Arts Midwest. These activities include administrative support, data entry, assisting in annual fund campaign for individual, corporate and foundation contributors, program sponsorships, prospecting for new funders, as well as representing Arts Midwest to funders when appropriate. Description: Children’s HeartLink is an international medical charity, based in Edina, MN. Children’s Heartlink has been mobilizing individuals to treat and prevent heart disease in needy children for over 35 years. They currently have partner hospital programs in Malaysia, India, China, Ukraine and Kenya, as wellas efforts in South Africa.
Responsibilities: Providing assistance to all Children’s HeartLink international program activities, including travel preparations, staff communications, updating patient and supply databases, filing, attending meetings, assisting with special events, potential translation work.
Requirements: Interest in working with international charity or nonprofit organization. Chrysalis is looking for several fall interns to work with women and their families to improve their lives. Chrysalis is an organization that works to organize resources and support so women and children can lead healthy lives. There are several intern positions which need to be filled. Chrysalis is looking for a marketing and communications intern to work with the director of development, marketing and communication on a number of projects. The intern will concentrate on outreach to the community as well as event planning and coordination. The intern will be responsible for responding to requests for information about Chrysalis, performing outreach to many organizations, gathering and organizing marketing data and attending a minimum of one volunteer in-service for each 150-hours worked. These in-services will provide information about issues impacting women. CHCM is offering two internships for individuals to grow and learn in a “real world” professional experience. Each opportunity gives exposure to twenty-nine local nonprofits. Successful interns for each position should have strong planning and analytical skills, strong written and oral communication skills, ability to be a self-starter and to take initiative, experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access, and have creative energy and interest in exploration and learning.
1) The first opportunity is for a communications assistant. The intern will manage the website’s volunteer opportunities, create and update biographical information for speakers, board members and staff, assist with mailings, track and evaluate promotional activities of twenty-nine health charities, and compile information from member health charities and create fact sheets for use in campaigns.
2) The second opportunity is for a campaign assistant. The intern will assist in the management of a variety of workplace giving campaigns. Responsibilities will include: communicating with campaign partners and member charities, coordinating campaign material, developing and maintaining campaign tracking systems of data with accuracy and efficiency, and coordinating volunteers and volunteer projects.

Description: Creative Memories offers ongoing part time Public Relations internships. The intern will provide support to the Product Marketing Manager and team in the areas of media coordination, special event planning, charitable giving and administration.
Responsibilities: Write and distribute press releases for new product introductions. Pitch media. Fulfill inventory requests for editorial consideration in magazines. Secure media clips for features on direct-selling industry, scrap booking industry and other related stories. Compile and distribute Media Moments to corporate management team. Maintain media archives. Partner with internal HR and Event departments for on-site special event planning, including promotion, meeting logistics and event participation. Schedule Tour team, update tour materials, and serve as tour guide for weekly tours. Coordinate on-site donation pick up. Assist speechwriter on edits and emcee scripts. Sort income requests and determine appropriate action. Complete check and product requests for donations, sponsorships, etc. Complete rejection letters, provide follow-up phone calls. Requirements: Completion or near completion of a four year degree. Two years experience in business setting. Knowledge of Microsoft applications. Understanding of Creative Memories Values and Beliefs, strong command of the English language, impeccable phone etiquette, detail oriented, ability to collaborate and function in a team environment. Media Writing (Comm 245) Advanced Media Writing (Comm 345) and who has had writing experience with club newsletters, newspapers, and/or tutoring. Speaking skills and other skills related to tour presentations would also be important.

East Central Senior Resource Center – Mora, MN ON-GOING
East Central Senior Resource Center located in Mora, Minnesota is a regional focal point, serving the Minnesota counties of Chisago, Isanti, Kanabeck, Mille Lacs and Pine through programs and services which support the organization’s mission. The intern positions being offered are directly supervised by and will work closely with, other program staff. Each internship will include emphasis on public policy, community planning, resource development and managing administrative details, with other specific responsibilities as needed. Interns may also identify and take on projects of interest that relate to services for older adults. Three separate positions are currently being offered: a Development Intern, a Public Relations Intern and a Human Services Intern. Applicants should be undergraduate students who understand services related to older adults and who are computer literate. The internship will have a minimum commitment of 160 hours. Training is provided with references, letters of recommendation and a $500 stipend upon completion of the internship.

Description: The Communications Office assists the Governor in communicating his programs, priorities and views to the citizens of Minnesota. The Communications Office Internship Program is designed to provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience by working in a challenging professional environment that offers exposure to public policy issues and state politics. Internships are offered as 4-month opportunities and are open to students throughout the year. All internships are unpaid.
Responsibilities: Issuing press releases and other special announcements, scheduling press conferences, releasing the Governor’s public schedule, announcing appointments to various offices, and releasing the speech texts. The office responds to media inquiries, and prepares speeches, op ed pieces and other public statements.
Requirements: A minimum of a 12 hour commitment per week is necessary. Students should be at least sophomores with previous office experience and computer skills. Maturity and excellent communication skills are necessary.

The intern will learn the basics of marketing, event planning, sponsorship opportunities and the process of advertising. The intern will be relied upon for news release writing, planning through strategy meetings, and to help create or devise other public relations campaigns. The Family Institute for Creative Well-Being is offering a communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit internship opportunity. The intern will assist with all aspects of business operations from data entry to preparing and assisting with therapeutic arts related programs for families who have children with disabilities or chronic illnesses. The intern will also assist in some of the following areas, based on talent and experience: writing news releases, media alerts and performing media relations follow up. The intern must be able to work approximately 10 hours per week. The internship can be arranged for credit and has a stipend of $500 for the summer.
