Graphics Internship Program
Description: The Graphics Department of The Associated Press is offering a 12- week internship. Interns will get to create breaking and advanced graphics for national, international, sports, and business fields. Interns will also get to work on research and interviewing techniques. This internship is paid.
Responsibilities: Interns will learn to manipulate data and create meta-data oriented graphics, learn vector rendering, and 3-D rendering styles for graphics.
Requirements: Interns must be a junior or senior. Start dates may be anytime between mid- May and mid- June depending on schedule.

Metro Desk Internship Program
Description: The Associated Press Broadcast News Center in Washington, D. C is offering a paid metro news desk internship during the summer. This internship is paid.
Responsibilities: The interns will assist the Metro Washington, D.C. news desk by making beat calls, monitoring newscasts, and will cover stories for both the broadcast-style and print- style wires. The intern will also train as an in-house writer and reporter for AP’s radio services.
Requirements: Interns must be juniors or seniors. Start dates may be anytime between mid- May and mid- June depending on schedule.
Application Process: Write a 300- word essay about the topic described above, submit a resume and cover letter, 2 letters of reference (at least one from a professor or faculty advisor on school letterhead), 3 writing samples of the combinations of: a news writing assignment completed for journalism class, a clip of a story written for a college newspaper, a script written for a radio or TV newscast, or a script or story written for an internship at a newspaper or broadcast station. However, one must be a broadcast writing sample. Interns must take the broadcast internship writing test at the nearest bureau (which can be found on the homepage website), where you can submit the required materials and complete an application. The Brain Injury Association of MN – Minneapolis, MN ON-GOING
The Brain Injury Association of MN is offering a flexible communications internship for the spring semester. The intern will be responsible for writing and sending press releases, researching, developing and compiling content for the organization’s electronic newsletter, maintaining the communications database, updating website content, and editing and publishing the quarterly newsletter. Brain Injury Association of MN – Communications Intern - Minneapolis, Minnesota – Summer and Fall Description: The Brain Injury Association of Minnesota is the only nonprofit organization in the state dedicated solely to serving the needs of the 94,000 Minnesotans who live with a disability due to brain injury. Their mission is to enhance the quality of life and bring the promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. Under the guidance of the Public Awareness Director, the Communications Intern performs a variety of communications activities to enhance the quality of life and bring the promise of a better tomorrow for all people affected by brain injury. Responsibilities: Responsibilities will vary depending on the interest of the Intern and organization’s workload. The Intern may be in charge of writing and sending press releases, researching, developing and compiling content for the organization’s electronic newsletter, maintaining the communications database, updating website content, and contributing to the writing, editing and publishing of the quarterly newsletter. There might also be communications duties related to special events and community outreach activities.
Qualifications: Student pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Nonprofit Management or related field. Position is open to sophomores, juniors or seniors who have completed some coursework in Mass Communications and Journalism or Expository Writing. Basic word processing, spreadsheet and organizational skills are a must. Desktop publishing skills and an interest in nonprofit organizations is a plus. Transportation required. We ask for a minimum of one term with 8+ hours per week, primarily weekday hours but some early evening hours are also available.

Catholic Charities is seeking a part-time, 20 hours per week, communications intern for the spring semester. The intern will be responsible for assisting the communications associate with planning, coordinating, designing, preparing, and implementing communications and development materials and campaigns. The intern will also assist with the collection of client testimonials and photos, support appeal efforts, special events, annual reporting and review, assist with media relations, publicity campaigns, and monitoring and ongoing maintenance of the organization’s web page. To qualify, the intern should have student training toward a B.A. /B.S. degree in mass communication, graphic design, journalism, marketing or related field. Experience in a graphics and advertising environment with familiarity with QuarkXpress software is preferred. The position works primarily in an office setting, however, the intern should have his or her own means of transportation because some weekly travel around the St. Cloud Area will be necessary. Dow Jones Newspaper Fund, Inc. – Princeton, NJ ON-GOING
Dow Jones Newspaper Fund (DJNF) is offering two summer internships open to U.S. citizens enrolled as full-time college junior, senior, or graduate students. Duties of the Newspaper Copy Editing Internship include editing stories, writing headlines and designing pages for leading American newspapers. The Sports Copy Editing Internship duties include editing and design for the sports sections of daily newspapers. Both internships include a two week editing residency, regular wages for 10 weeks after the residency, $1000 scholarships for full-time students returning to school in fall, and travel to residency and internship site. Application deadline is Nov. 1. An Editing Exam is required and must be taken before Nov. 1st.
Dow Jones also offers a summer Business Reporting Internship Program open to college sophomores and juniors. After an intensive one-week training course in New York City, students spend 10 weeks as salaried reporters for daily newspapers or news services. The Fund provides transportation, room and board during the training course. Successful interns who return to school the following fall will receive $1,000 college scholarships. Living arrangements and commuting expenses during the internship are the interns responsibility. Minority students are encouraged to apply. Elder Network – Centra Care Clinic - Saint Cloud, MN ON-GOING
The Elder Network is an outreach program utilizing senior peer volunteer counselors who receive training and then are connected with a senior in need within the community. Through active listening by the Peer Volunteer Counselor, clients are helped to work through their issues, remain independent, and live a better quality life.
Responsibilities: Interns are expected to work the data system by entering and keeping track of volunteers and clients. They will be responsible for developing and setting up and Elder network Newsletter, as well as work with the Elder Network program in terms of client reviews and office tasks.
Qualifications: the applicant needs to be: a self-starter, dependable, confident. They should have computer skills and be able to track records. The intern will also need to have great social and relationship skills to work cooperatively with office personnel.

Description: The Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) Internship Program provides opportunities for qualified undergraduate and first year graduate students to receive hands-on experience in a real-world setting that prepares them to become part of tomorrow's workforce. Disciplines: engineering, computer science, health physics, meteorology, chemistry, physics, biological sciences, environmental sciences, emergency management, public health, epidemiology, accounting, finance, audit, communications, graphic design, human resources, and instructional technology. Currently, there is only one opening in Oak Ridge, Tennessee for an intern interested in working with staff on issues in energy and the environment.
Responsibilities: Develop individualized research project including report in area of joint interest with mentor, present findings in seminar, and participate in group/program meetings/discussions/seminars to learn breadth of multidisciplinary approaches to complex issues.
Qualifications: Students must be enrolled at an accredited college or university as a junior/senior undergraduate or graduate student interested in integrating physical, natural, and/or social sciences with public policy and administration, environmental regulation and management, planning, natural resource management, engineering, business, law, operations research or decision research, organizational psychology, or related fields.

The Governor’s Communications Department is offering an internship program that will provide undergraduate students with an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience by working in a challenging professional environment that offers exposure to public policy and behind the scenes look at the interaction between media and the Governor’s Office.
Responsibilities: The intern will assist the Governor in communicating his programs, priorities, and views to citizens of Minnesota. The intern will issue press releases, schedule press conferences, release the Governor’s public schedule, and announce appointments.
Qualifications: This internship will be for 4-months offered every fall and spring semester to undergraduate students. A minimum of 12 hours per week is required. Previous office experience and computer skills are needed, along with maturity and excellent communication skills.

Best Practices in Corporate Communications (BPCC) – Best Practices in Corporate Communications builds relationships and develop innovative solutions, which help member companies utilize and improve communication. HMML has assembled a collection of approximately 90,000 manuscripts on microfilm, and serves scholars and the general public around the world. They are looking for an intern to work in Ethiopian Cataloguing. Under the guidance of the Cataloguer of Oriental Manuscripts, the student will aid in preparing a final edited copy of the catalogue. In addition to general editorial duties, the intern will: prepare a camera-ready copy for publications; prepare an index for the volume; prepare and correct the copy for eventual electronic publication; prepare the material for eventual inclusion in the Library’s online manuscript catalogue; and undertake occasional reference research in the course of preparing the catalogue. Entertainment interns will help with book program segments, read proposals, transcribe tapes, evaluate movie clips and perform daily office tasks. Interns may also participate in shoots for entertainment and art stories.
Promotions interns will assign inventory and assist in the production of on-air promotions. Interested students should have writing experience and basic production skills as well as a craving for news and an eye for good television.
Special projects interns will compile stories, log tapes, make copies and assist producers and reporters. This intern will help produce longer, in-depth news, investigative and feature stories that run during the 10 p.m. newscast. Interns are relied on to help maintain the tip line, transcribe videotapes and research stories. The intern will go out in the field with reporters, do anchor read, write and edit your own news story.
Research interns will assist in the creation of presentations and tracking of audience data based on market overnight Nielsen ratings, work on special projects related to news and promotion and help the sales team with research to target advertising clients for the station.
Communications interns will help prepare for and work at station-sponsored events, distribute daily news clips reports and provide station tours. Interns will also assist in fulfilling donation requests, searching for opportunities for station involvement and writing press releases.
General news interns will answer the assignment desk phone, take viewer comments and story ideas, and set up interviews. As a part of the internship interns may have the chance to go out on news stories to observe news crews.

Itasca State Park – Park Rapids, MN
Itasca State Park is offering two internship positions for the summer of 2004. These interns will assist the Itasca Park Naturalist in documenting and archiving Itasca State Park’s historic artifacts and documents. The interns will also assist in conducting oral histories, recording interpretive programs, and arranging for transcribing. Additional experience may be gained in display development, resource inventories, research, writing, planning, resource management, park programming, and/or park enforcement. Formal and on-the-job training programs are provided for these tasks. Applicants should have completed their sophomore year. Interns majoring in history are most desirable, but other majors will be considered, such as biology, environmental education, or natural resources management. Interns must have genuine interest and enjoyment in working with the public and in the outdoors. Both positions begin late May and run through Labor Day, 40 hours per week. These are paid internships at $7.40 per hour. Housing is available at Itasca State Park at approximately $30-$40 a month. There are 3 internships currently available at the Loft Literary Center. The first one is a Marketing and Membership Internship. This intern assists the Loft’s Marketing and Membership Director with a variety of special projects and routine tasks.
The second internship is a Write On Radio! Intern The Write On Radio! Intern will assist with various aspects of the Loft’s weekly, hour-long radio program, Write On Radio!, which airs Thursdays at 11:a.m. on KFAI-FM (90.3 FM in Minneapolis, 106.7 FM in St. Paul.)
The final intern is A View from the Loft Intern. A View from the Loft is the Loft’s monthly magazine. This intern would assist the editorial team with a variety of projects and special tasks, including: researching literary and publishing magazines for listings in the "overview", inputting submitted articles, proofreading and fact-checking articles and columns, assembling monthly mailings, and contacting authors and publicists and for photos and bios.
