Metro Desk Internship Program
Description: The Associated Press Broadcast News Center in Washington, D. C offers a paid metro news desk internship during the summer. This internship is paid.
Responsibilities: The interns will assist the Metro Washington, D.C. news desk by making beat calls, monitoring newscasts, and will cover stories for both the broadcast-style and print- style wires. The intern will also train as an in-house writer and reporter for AP’s radio services.
Requirements: Interns must be juniors or seniors. Start dates may be anytime between mid- May and mid- June depending on schedule.
Application Process: Write a 300- word essay about the topic described above, submit a resume and cover letter, 2 letters of reference (at least one from a professor or faculty advisor on school letterhead), 3 writing samples of the combinations of: a news writing assignment completed for journalism class, a clip of a story written for a college newspaper, a script written for a radio or TV newscast, or a script or story written for an internship at a newspaper or broadcast station. However, one must be a broadcast writing sample. Interns must take the broadcast internship writing test at the nearest bureau (which can be found on the homepage website), where you can submit the required materials and complete an application. Video Internship Program ONGOING
Description: The Associated Press Broadcast News Center in Washington, D.C is offering a video internship during the summer. This is a paid internship.
Responsibilities: Interns will work with a team that is producing voiced video packages that are distributed to broadcast television stations and Web sites in the United States. Interns will work with non-linear editing gear and learn broadcast writing and storytelling techniques.
Requirements: Intern must be a junior or senior. Start dates may be anytime between mid- May and mid- June depending on schedule.
Application Process: Write a 300- word essay about the topic described above, submit a resume and cover letter, 2 letters of reference (at least one from a professor or faculty advisor on school letterhead), three broadcasting writing samples that can be any combination of the following: a script written for TV or college newscast station, a script written for a radio or college radio station, a script written for a broadcast journalism class assignment, or a script written for an internship at a broadcast station. Production and Web Intern
To assist with the production of radio and Web programming at Performance Today, American Public Media’s flagship daily classical music program, as well as the other regional and national music programs from Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media. Basic training in radio production is included in this internship, including writing for radio and web, basic digital editing techniques (Pro-Tools) and coaching in on-air hosting.

Internships offered from March through August are a registration director for Star of the North Games and gold programs operations coordinator. On The Media (OTM) is accepting applications from people interested in learning about production. Interns are an integral part of OTM’s staff, and assist with all aspects of the show’s production. The intern will sit in on editorial meetings, provide research assistance, and perform various tasks involved in the daily running of the organization’s office. Interns will learn basic production skills, including field recording and digital audio editing, and are eventually encouraged to produce at least one segment of the show. Safe Schools/Healthy Students is currently seeking up to three interns to assist with the initiative’s public relations/marketing/communication needs. The internship is expected to last a minimum of three weeks but may extend to six months.
