Obtain a Temporary OPT/EAD Card

Eligibility

If your OPT/EAD card has not been approved after 90 days, you are elligible to get a temporary card (usually valid for 3 months) at the district USCIS office.  Please check your OPT/EAD status online because if the card has been approved but has not yet arrived, you are not eligible for a temporary OPT/EAD card.

Required Documents

When you visit the district USCIS office, please bring the following documents:

  • Notice of Action, also known as I-797c form.
  • Passport (valid for at least 6 months)
  • I-94 card (the arrival/departure card)
  • I-20 which shows a notation for OPT or EAD on page 3.
