The International Student Consultants efforts make the transition to life on the CSB/SJU campuses easier for foreign students and benefit the cultural awareness of the entire community.
In conjunction with the Joint Mission Statement of CSB/SJU, the International Student Consultant Program aims to enhance and promote continual cultural interaction amongst all students, staff, and faculty within CSB/SJU and the greater community. As an extension of the institution's commitment to diversity, the ISC program provides the education and service to foster a comfortable intercultural learning community. The staff is committed to respectful and positive dialogue between all community members. Fernando Galeano is a Junior majoring in Management with an emphasis in Leadership in organizations. He was the first Salvadorian to come to the CSB/SJU 3 years ago. Fernando is involve in many organizations on campus like SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) and Clemens Perk, a student run coffee shop. Fernando enjoys traveling, and has been able to travel with CSB/SJU around the US and Central America, where he took part in the student-filmed and produced documentary "Somos de Cafe". Fernando will study abroad in France in the fall of 2009, where he expects to improve his french. Fernando has been working as an International Student Consultant for a year and he will be working for the program in the summer of 2009.
Nibras Hanna, Iraq, email

Nibras Hanna is a junior majoring in Computer Science and minoring in Management. He is the first international student from Iraq at Saint John’s and enjoys teaching people Arabic. Nibras is Christian Chaldean and worked as an interpreter for the US Military for three years before coming to the United States. This is his third year working for the International Student Program. Nibras is interested in Politics and loves sharing his point of view of the Iraq war. Nibras would like to study abroad possibly in South Africa or Japan in the future.

Nakita is a senior majoring in Communication with a minor in Environmental Studies. She has been an International Student Consultant since she was a sophomore and absolutely loves it. She hasn't been in the office for awhile since she studied abroad for a full year: China in the fall of 2008 and South Africa in the spring of 2009. She loves to meet new international students and enjoys getting to know them and hearing about their individual experiences. She plays a lot of squash when she can (not the vegetable, the sport) and is always keen on playing if anyone is interested!

Jasmine Tang is a sophomore majoring in Psychology with a minor in philosophy. This is her second year working in the International Student Office. Jasmine is from Hong Kong and she enjoys taking pictures, drawing, playing piano and reading. She also loves travelling and she wishes that she can backpack Europe for a year or more. She loves her life and hopes everyone loves theirs too.
Vincent Thompson, The Bahamas, < A>

Vincent Thompson is a freshman majoring in Economics with a minor in Spanish. This is Vincent’s first year at the International Students Program. Vincent is from the Bahamas and loves the warm climate that comes with being a Bahamian. Vincent likes to play every kind of sport; basketball mostly, and to spend time with his friends watching movies and listening to rap and reggae music. His dream is to become an Economist where he will be able to get paid to live in other countries and research on their economies with his family.
Mai Chong Xiong – Maplewood, MN, email

Mai Chong Xiong (also known as MC) is a junior majoring in Political Science. She was born and raised in St. Paul, MN and enjoys the city life in the Twin Cities. She plays flag-football for a Hmong women’s flag-football team called Black Widows, who competes in local tournaments during the summer time. Other interests MC has are: politics, American foot-ball, and Asian foods. On campus and outside of the job she loves, she is also involved in the St. Ben Senate and Cultural Affairs Board.
