Sean Steinhauser is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Australia.

Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.

Everything about my trip was an amazing cultural experience. From the food to all of the sights, everything we did put us out of our comfort zones and into something new and exciting. The Broome trip was probably the best. I have never witnessed or done anything like that in my life, and hopefully I can share what I learned with others and spread the good news.

Why did you choose the program in which you participated?

I have alway wanted to go to Australia. When chosing colleges, this was a huge priority for me. Being able to visit all of the amazing places has always been a dream, and to be able to go there was a dream come true.

Describe your overall study abroad experience.

My trip to Australia is one of the greatest experiences and oppourtunities I have ever been able to do. Going on this trip has allowed me to discover a culture I knew nothing about, and people who I never would have known. My fellow students and I who shared this experience are now tied together forever linking us to the remarkable experiences in Australia, and we now call ourselves family. Australia is a special place which I will always treasure and hope to go explore again one day.

How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?

This trip has affected me because I know what I want to do know. I popped the "safe bubble," and was able to discover parts of myself I did not know I had. It was an amazing experience. I learned about different types friendships, responsibilities, and how it is ok to say "yes" and give something a try. You never know you may love it such as eating kangaroo!

What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?

Take a chance. Work hard here at CSB/SJU, and take a chance on these amazing opportunities you have available here through the Study Abroad Dept. Whether you wish to go to Australia or anywhere else, go out there and do it because it will change your life in ways words cannot express.
