Minnesota colleges and universities are among the best in the country in programs that send students overseas to study.
St. Olaf College and the College of St. Benedict/St. John's University were the top two baccalaureate schools in the country for student participation in study-abroad programs. Concordia College of Moorhead and Gustavus Adolphus College also ranked in the top 20.
The University of Minnesota-Twin Cities was No. 5 in the study-abroad list among doctoral institutions, while the U's Duluth campus ranked high among master's degree schools.
The U's Twin Cities campus, St. Cloud State University, Southwest Minnesota State and Macalester College were popular destinations for international students studying in the United States, according to the Open Doors 2006 report, released Monday.
Overall in the 2004-05 school year, 205,983 U.S. students studied abroad, up nearly 8 percent from the prior year. Some 564,766 international students, meanwhile, were enrolled in U.S. colleges last school year, down from a peak of 586,323 three years ago.
