Calcutta (Kolkata) is a large, bustling metropolis where the population exceeds 15 million making it India's third largest city. It was once the imperial capital of British India. Calcutta is known for its community based neighborhoods, literary, artistic, and revolutionary heritage.
Calcutta is home to St. Xavier's College, a Christian Minority Institution. Students will be enrolled directly at St. Xavier's College for one class of their choice from a wide array of departments. In addition, students will take courses in Bengali language, culture, and history of India.
The faculty for the program consists of a professor from CSB/SJU who will teach a Study Abroad Seminar course and of professors from St. Xavier's College in Calcutta. The college offers courses in commerce, science, arts, business administration, and mass communication.
Volunteer and Service Learning is Calcutta will play a major role in this program.
The program dates for India are from early-January to late-May.
