Greenhouse Assistant

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The biology department at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University invite applications for a part time position of Greenhouse Assistant.  Under the direct supervision to the Greenhouse Supervisor, this individual will be responsible for general care and maintenance of plants and public outreach programs.  Duties may include but are not limited to:  maintain the collection of plants; develop the collection of plants and specific plants needed by faculty; oversee the employment of student employees in this area to include hire, supervise and train; provide space and materials for faculty and student research; provide research materials for class demonstrations; provide space and materials for class projects; encourage greenhouse-related projects and educate the community about plants (tours, workshops, open houses).

Qualifications: High school graduate, Bachelors degree preferred, with horticulture or greenhouse experience.  Must have the ability to perform the physical labor required in a greenhouse and maintain a high level of attention needed to plant growth and health; strong communication skills are required with the ability to present horticultural workshops and work with the public.  Must be able to work variable hours with occasional weekends.
