Executive Director of Advancement Communications

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Institutional Advancement at Saint John's University invites applications for the position of Executive Director of Advancement Communications.  Reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Executive Director of Advancement Communications helps expand the resource base of Saint John’s University by effectively communicating the institution’s mission, vision and priorities to alumni and friends. Primary responsibilities include managing and directing marketing and communications, including all print, electronic (including web and multimedia) publications, for the Office of Institutional Advancement.  The successful incumbent will achieve this by developing and executing an annual communications plan; managing the communications and publications budget; maintaining brand consistency; coordinating the production of print publications; coordinating the Web site strategy and content; managing relationships with publications vendors, overseeing alumni relations and development news and information for strategic use in all communications; and managing the photographic and multi-media needs for Institutional Advancement.

The successful incumbent will have an understanding of philanthropy and the ability to direct communications in support of fund raising efforts.  A Baccalaureate degree is required with a minimum of five to seven years experience in communications or public relations with a special emphasis in publications management, preferably in a university setting.  In addition, the incumbent will demonstrate strong leadership and management experience; strong marketing orientation and posses a high degree of creativity.  The incumbent will provide evidence of experience working with a variety of multi-media, including print, web, webcasts, podcasts, photographic, video, film.  Strong writing and verbal communications skills are required to interact professionally with internal and external clientele.
