Environmental Educator Fellowship

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

St. John's Arboretum invites applications for an Environmental Educator Fellowship position to begin in August, 2008.  The Environmental Educator is responsible for assisting the Arboretum’s Environmental Education Coordinator in the direction and coordination of the environmental education programming at Saint John’s Arboretum for preK-12 students, College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University students, and the general public. This position will assist in teaching the environmental education curriculum and assist in developing new programming and curriculum. Other aspects of the position include training and teaching other Arboretum student staff and volunteers, teaching public programs, outreach to the CSB/SJU community, land stewardship, and equipment maintenance.

The Environmental Educator Fellowship position exists to provide experiential learning opportunities for recent graduates of the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University interested in a career in environmental education.   The position provides for advanced development of environmental interpretation skills, teaching techniques, and natural history knowledge through hands-on training and through participation in seminars, workshops, and continuing education.  Opportunities for collaboration with professors and other CSB/SJU staff will also be provided.  This position can not be filled by the same person for more than 13 months and will be rotated annually.   

QUALIFICATIONS:    Bachelor of Arts or Sciences, preferably related to environmental studies, education, natural sciences, or related field required. Experience in teaching younger students preferred.  The successful incumbents will demonstrate enthusiasm and ability to teach environmental education to students of all ages on a daily basis and demonstrate a keen interest in people, education and the environment.  Consideration will also be given to those demonstrating knowledge and interest in the native flora and fauna of Saint John's.  As a condition of employment, a successful background check is required.
