Assistant Director of the Intercultural Center

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The Department of Intercultural Center-Student Development at the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University invite applications for the position of Assistant Director of the Intercultural Center to begin June, 2008.  The Assistant Director supports the mission of the Intercultural Center by building and maintaining a campus environment that is inclusive, pluralistic, and diverse.  As a member of the Department of Student Development, working with students, staff and faculty, the Assistant Director  assists in developing annual goals to help build a more Intercultural community and enhance the value of that community for each of its members with students, staff and faculty.  The Intercultural Center provides support services to Intercultural Students. The Center provides educational and intercultural awareness and intercultural competence, and creates a welcoming community that recognizes, respects, and celebrates a myriad of cultures.  The Center strives to facilitate intercultural interaction, learning and appreciation.

The successful encumbent will accomplish this by gathering information, track legislation, and conduct research on issues and policies regarding USA American Students of Color (ASOC)--Latino/Hispanic, African Americans, Asians and Native Americans, and Multiracial and Multiple Identities students in higher education; serve on and advise college/university committees, conduct focus groups to ensure accountability and promote intercultural awareness and competence; assist in coordinating assessment and evaluation to identify student needs and departmental priorities, and measure student learning that occurs as a result of interactions with the Center’s programs and services to students and refer to appropriate academic, residential/housing, financial and other resources as needed.  This position will assist in the leadership of the day to day supervision of student employees.  

Bachelors degree is required.  A minimum of three years professional, college or university experience in intercultural/multicultural programming, education, student affairs, and/or related field.  Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate positively and effectively in a variety of settings.  Demonstrated successful program budget experience and ability to interact with diverse cultures.  Ability to design and facilitate diversity training programs is desired.
