Saint John's Abbey and Saint John's University invite applications for the position of Fire Chief/Assistant Safety Director. The Fire Chief is responsible for all aspects of fire department command, training, administration, maintenance, and fire prevention inspection for the entire Saint John’s campus. The Saint John’s Fire Department is staffed by students, monks, and employees.
The Fire Chief also serves as the Assistant Safety Director and is responsible for comprehensive departmental safety programs, training, and compliance by working with various abbey, prep school, and university departments regarding safety issues. This may include arrange and/or conduct individual or group training on specific safety topics; perform safety audits and inspections of departments to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations and respond to questions related to safety issues.
Qualifications: Minimum of three (3) years experience as an officer in a fire department and a minimum of six (6) years experience in the fire service. Must be willing to live on campus (housing provided). The Fire fighter II certification or equivalent is required. The successful incumbent will have excellent leadership abilities to communicate professionally to students, monks, employees, and visitors. Knowledge of safety issues required. Must have basic vehicle maintenance knowledge.
