Cemetery Groundskeeper

POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Saint John's Abbey invites applications for a one year position of Cemetery Groundskeeper.  This position is less than half time, works variable hours including some Saturdays.  This position is responsible for the maintenance and care of the abbey cemetery grounds, mowing, trimming, watering etc.; arranging the opening/closing of graves and niches, overseeing the installation of and work on monuments and niche covers and all related work.  This position typically works with little supervision and is required to perform the full range of duties required in a cemetery maintenance operation.  This position reports to the Manager of the Abbey Cemetery and works closely with the university grounds crew in coordinating the use of equipment, student workers, and snow removal.

Qualifications:    Must hold a valid driver's license and availability to work flexible hours.  Ability to perform lawn care, trees and shrubs maintenance, general maintenance, and repair work.  Must have the ability to work under hazardous working conditions and in inclement weather; knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment and use and operate hand and power tools.  Knowledge of methods and techniques used in the construction and maintenance of landscaped areas, preferably, cemetery facilities.  Ability to perform heavy manual labor and lift up to 50 pounds with or without assistance.
