2010 Grads Honors Thesis Dates

Junior Year:

by October 20, 2008 (Fall term) or March 9, 2009 (Spring term):

  • Submit one-page application for the Senior Honors Project. (Appendix B)
  • Submit Departmental Approval Form (Appendix C.1)
  • Submit Thesis Advisor's statement. (Appendix C)

April 2009:

  • Register for HONR 398 for Fall 2006.  Exceptions (History majors, Fall study abroad students, and others) should contact the Honors Thesis Director to establish a planned schedule for completing the thesis.

by December 12, 2008 (Fall term) or May 4, 2009 (Spring term):

  • Submit your Thesis Proposal (format) to the Honors Thesis Director.  Your proposal must include an approval page (Appendix E) signed by:
    1. All three members of your Thesis Committee,
    2. the Chair of your major department,
    3. the Honors Thesis Director, and
    4. the Director of the Honors Program (if you are an Honors student).

 

Senior Year (2009-10)

Commence research and writing thesis.  Keep in regular contact with your Thesis Advisor and the Honors Thesis Director.  December graduates should consult the Honors Thesis Director for a checklist and deadlines.

By Thanksgiving Break:

Report your progress to your Thesis Advisor.  This may take the form of an initial thesis chapter (Humanities/Social Science majors), a performance or sample artworks (Fine Arts) or preliminary data analysis (Science majors).

Your Thesis Advisor will submit a one-page progress report to the Honors Thesis Director. (Appendix F

By the end of Fall Semester 2009:

  • Most thesis writers should have completed a working draft of the thesis (25-35 pages). All Science major thesis students should have, by this time, collected all their data and begun to analyze it. 

By the end of March 2010:

  • Give final draft of thesis to all members of the defense committee at least one week prior to the defense. The Coordinator of the Thesis Program will schedule defenses in consultation with the student and the committee.

By mid April 2010:

  • Complete defense of thesis.  Revise your thesis accordingly, taking into account comments and editorial changes recommended by your committee.

By last regular class day of Spring Semester 2010

  • ALL of the following steps MUST be completed by this date for you to be recognized with All-College Honors and/or Distinction.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • Deliver three final copies of the thesis with all prescribed revisions to the Honors Thesis Director. After the Program director signs it, return one copy to the department in which you did the thesis.  Give another signed and bound copy to your Thesis Advisor.  The third is deposited with the Honors Program and ultimately becomes a part of the CSBSJU Library holdings.
  • Write a 150-word abstract of your thesis and submit it as a Word document to the Director of Honors Thesis Program and to the Honors Program Office Coordinator.  An electronic copy of the thesis (minus the signature page) must also be provided.  If the nature of your final thesis does not allow electronic submssion, special arrangement must be made with the Thesis program director, Dr. Richard White.
  • Complete Self-Evaluation form, (Appendix G), submit to thesis advisor for his or her evaluation, and deliver the completed form to the Honors Thesis director, Dr. Richard White at either ASC 157 or Quad 451.
