Each winter, students from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa visit The College of Saint Benedict/Saint John's University on a short-term program. CSB/SJU sends students for a semester-long study abroad experience at NMMU as well as a short-term program. CSB/SJU nursing students visit South Africa in mid-May while NMMU nursing students visit CSB/SJU in January.
While the nursing students from South Africa are visiting our campuses, they are able to attend nursing classes, meet Bennies and Johnnies who are also studying nursing, visit local hospitals to conduct clinicals, and experience various cultural opportunities. The program benefits all of the students involved as they learn about similarities and differences within their field of study. It is wonderful for all of the students to learn how things are done on the other side of the world so that they can take what they learn and apply it to their own studies.
