Per Lundmark is an Ambassador who studied abroad in Austria.
Briefly describe a specific cultural experience you had on your trip that made a lasting impression.
I had the opportunity to teach English to an Austrian first grade class in a small town south of Salzburg called Hallein. It was great to see how the Austrian school system worked and also help out my friend who was teaching the class.
Why did you choose the program in which you participated?
I wanted to study abroad in order to pursue my interest of traveling and seeing the world with my academic interests of learning the German language and culture. Austria was a practical means toward both ends.
Describe your overall study abroad experience.
An essential eye opening experience.
How has the trip affected you? How are you different for having completed the experience?
My view of the world has drastically changed. I realize now that we (especially Minnesotans) are on a cultural island, where one can travel many miles and still be able to relate to people on a linguistic as well as personal level.
What advice do you have for future Study Abroad Students?
Travel light, abandon all expectations and take every opportunity that is presented to you. Your time there is short, and there is much to learn.
