Just a Game? Video games, war, and self understanding.

Video games are a major factor in the lives of our young people. And they have come a long way since the days of Pac Man or Super Mario. Today’s games are visually stunning, challengingly complex, and deeply immersive. They are also increasingly violent. What message do games give their players about what it means to be human and to be an actor in the world? In this talk I’ll examine the underlying messages of both violent and non-violent video games and look at the disturbing relationship between video games, Hollywood, and the Pentagon.
