The State We're In (In 1835 at least!)

Annette Atkins

I'm writing a history of Minnesota and trying in the process to think about what's important to tell and why. In this talk I'm going to outline both the questions and my particular solutions in one particular chapter. 1835 is the era of when Fort Snelling was a small outpost and the Dakota and Ojibway had not yet ceded much land, and the place wasn't called Minnesota by anyone. So, come content and some process (isn't that always the way?).
