Campus Information: H1N1 Flu

October 19, 2009 Update to Campus Community

Similar to communities around us, cold and flu now are circulating widely on campus.  We are fortunate that the illness severity level has been low and that the flu has not disrupted the daily life of our campuses .

As you likely know, limited distribution of the H1N1 vaccine has begun.  Both CSB Health Services and the Health Partners Clinic at Saint John’s have requested H1N1 vaccine, but have not yet received  information from the Minnesota Department of Health or the Centers for Disease Control about  the quantity or anticipated date for receiving the vaccine.  We will provide you with additional information as we learn more. Read more.

What you need to know:

The emergence of the novel H1N1 influenza virus poses challenges for our community this fall.

  • Novel H1N1 influenza is different than the seasonal flu.
  • A novel H1N1 vaccine is still in development and expected to be available in limited quantities this fall.
  • The novel H1N1 virus demonstrates an ability to cause serious illness among young, previously healthy individuals.
  • There are measures you can take to lessen your chance of becoming infected.
