A Statement From Artist James Hayward

I saw Barnett Newman’s, STATIONS OF THE CROSS, at the Pasadena Museum of Modern Art, when I was in college. The paintings seemed to have little to do with The Stations, as I knew them.  Immediately I wondered if one could make Stations that could function both as liturgical objects, and as pure abstractions, simultaneously. I hope the answer is “Yes”.
