Available External Scholarships Applications

Listed below are brief descriptions of scholarships currently available at the External Scholarship Programs Office, HAB 103 - CSB.  The awards may have additional criteria.  For complete scholarship requirements, go to the scholarship website or to the External Scholarship Programs Office.  

FEBRUARY DUE DATES:

  • Clark E. DeHaven Scholarship Trust- 15 February 2012 - Intended for students committed to careers in food service professions or research, or in a related field of study.  Must be a U.S. or Canadian citizen.  Four $5,000 awards.
  • Jimmy Rane Foundation Scholarships, The - 15 February 2012 -  Undergraduate students whose permanent residence is in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Caroline, Tennessee, or Texas.  Must be a current freshman or sophomore, under age 20, as of 1 August 2012, and a US citizen.  Awards amounts will vary.
  • Radio Television Digital News Foundation Scholarships for Undergraduates -15 March 2012 - Students in any major as long as their intent is a career in electronic journalism.  Eight awards from $1,000 to $10,000.
  • Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Internship- 20 February 2012 - Junior women who are at least 21 years of age with a general knowledge or government, a keen interest in politics, campaign experience, and sufficient clerical office skills.  Three internships at Republican National headquarters in Virginia.  Three awards.
  • Frank L. Greathouse Government Accounting Scholarships- 24 February 2012 - For a graduate or undergraduate student in accounting who is preparing for a career in state of local government finance.  Must be a citizen, or permanent resident, of the U.S. or Canada.  One of more $5,000 awards.
  • Minorities in Government Finance Scholarship -24 February 2012 - Current upper-division undergraduate or graduate student in public administration, governmental accounting, finance, political science, economics, or business administration who are Black or African-American, American Indian or Alaskan Native, Asian, Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander, Hispanic or Latino.  In addition, candidates must be a citizen, or permanent resident, of the U.S. or Canada.  One $5,000 award.
  • Scholarships for Military Children Program - 24 February 2012 - Dependent unmarried children, under the age of 23, of active duty, Reserve/Guard, and retired military personnel, or the survivors of deceased members who are currently enrolled int eh DEERS date base.  At least one $1,500 award at every commissary location.
  • Betty Hansen National Scholarship - 29 February 2012 - Sons and daughters (or grandsons and granddaughters) of Danish Sisterhood members.  Must be full-time graduate or undergraduate students with at least a 2.50 GPA.  Up to eight $1,000 awards.
  • Elizabeth Garde National Scholarship - 29 February 2012 - Sons and daughters (or grandsons and granddaughters) of Danish Sisterhood members and who are seeking a degree in the nursing or medical professions.  One $850 award
  • Hispanic Scholarship Fund, The/Procter & Gamble Company Scholarship - 28 February 2012 - Undergraduate students of Hispanic heritage majoring in a STEM field-Science, Technology, Engineering &/or Mathematics.  Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and apply for federal financial aid.  Award amount is $2,500.
  • Benedictine Institute Essay Contest, The - 29 February 2012 - Seniors from CSB/SJU who write the best essay on the Benedictine dimension of education at CSB/SJU.  One $250 award and up to three $100 awards.
  • Lagrant Foundation- 29 February 2012 - Graduate or undergraduate students who are African American, Asian Pacific American, Hispanic/Latino, or Native American/Alaska Native majoring in public relations, marketing, or advertising.  Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.

MARCH DUE DATES:

  • American Chemical Society Scholars Program - 1 March 2012 - African-American, Hispanic/Latino, or American Indian students who are U.S. citizens majoring in chemistry, biochemistry, or a chemically-related science.  Awards of up to $5,000.
  • Associated Male Choruses of America - 1 March 2012 - Undergraduate students in college music programs.  Awards range from $1,000 to $1,200.
  • Astrid G. Cates & Myrtle Beinhauer Scholarships - 1 March 2012 - Students enrolled in post-secondary training or education (college, vocational, or trade school) who are current members, or the children or grandchildren of current members, of the Sons of Norway.  Typically, six $1,000 and two $3,000 awards.
  • Capstone Community Scholarship Program - 1 March 2012 - Undergraduate sophomore or junior students or graduate students.  U.S. citizenship is not a requirement but students must reside in MN, IL, or England.  Must be majoring in pre-school, elementary, or primary education, library science, English, publishing, graphic design, English language learners, or English as a second language and have a GPA of 3.00 or better.  Up to eight $2,500 awards.
  • Shirley Torrey Nursing Scholarship Program - 1 March 2012 - For a CSB or SJU nursing student.  Two $2,500 awards.
  • Undergraduates Exploring Ministry - 1 March 2012 - Current sophomores and juniors with an interest in the ministry as a career.  Up to forty $2,000 awards 
  • Women's Overseas Service League - 1 March 2012 - women who are committed to advancement in military or other public service careers.  Awards of $500 to $1,000.
  • National Italian American Foundation Scholarships- 2 March 2012 - Italian American students who demonstrate outstanding potential and high academic achievements in any area of study.  Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.  Awards range from $2,000 to $12,000.
  • Air Force Aid Society General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program, The - 9 March 2012 - Sons and daughters of active duty, full-time active duty, retired, retire reserve, and deceased Air Force members.  Awards are valued at $2,000,
  • National Society of Accountants Scholarships - 10 March 2012 - U.S. or Canadian citizens majoring in accounting with an cumulative GPA of at least 3.00.  Thirty-two awards of $500, $1,000, or $2,000.
  • National Association of Women in Construction Founders' Scholarship - 15 March 2012 - Undergraduate students enrolled in a construction-related degree program, such as architecture, engineering, interior design, management, landscaping, urban/city planning, etc.  Must desire a career in a construction-related field and have a GPA of at least 3.00.  Awards of $500 to $2,500.
  • Theisen Family Nursing Scholarship Fund, The - 15 March 2012 - CSB nursing students.  One $500 award.
  • Vincent L. Hawkinson Foundation for Peace and Justice Awards, The-  15 March 2012 - Undergraduate and graduate students who are residents of, or attending school in, Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.  Must have a demonstrated commitment to peace and justice.  One $5,000 and four $4,000 awards.
  • Zonta International Non-Traditional Students Scholarship - 15 March 2012 - For women who left the academic environment for a period of time and who are now returning to further their education &/or develop new skills.  Two scholarships of around $500.
  • Association of Government Accountants Scholarships- 30 March 2012 - Awards for the undergraduate family members of AGA members who are majoring in accounting, auditing, budgeting, economics, finance, electronic data processing, information resources management, &/or public administration.  Awards are available for full-and part-time students.  Also one Community Service scholarship for students in the above majors and who are actively involved in community service projects.   Applicants for the community service award need not family member of AGA members.  Up to six awards valued at $1,000 to $3,000. 
  • Association of Government Accountants Scholarships-Graduate Students - 30 March 2012 - Awards for graduate student who are  family members of AGA members and are majoring in accounting, auditing, budgeting, economics, finance, electronic data processing, information resources management, &/or public administration.  Awards are available for full-and part-time students.  Also one Community Service scholarship for students in the above majors and who are actively involved in community service projects.   Applicants for the community-service award need not family member of AGA members.  Up to six awards valued at $1,000 to $3,000. 
  • Helen N. & Harold B. Shapira Heart Undergraduate Scholarship, The -30 March 2012 - Undergraduate students working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system.  For Minnesota students only.  One $1,000.
  • Army Nurse Corps Association Memorial Scholarship Program - 31 March 2012 - Nursing students whose parent(s), spouse and/or children are or have served in a component of the US Army.  Scholarship ROTC students and students receiving GI Bill education benefits are not eligible.  Scholarships are valued at $3,000.
  • Minnesotajobs.com - 31 March 2012 - Undergraduate students who are at least 18-years old.  Scholarship is selected in a random drawing.. One $1,000 award.
  • Tag & Label Manufacturers Scholarships - 31 March 2012 - Current sophomores and juniors who are majoring in such areas as business administration, management, sales/marketing, graphic arts, graphic design &/or production.   Must have a GPA of 3.00 or better.  Up to six renewable scholarships of $5,000.
  • U.S. Bank Scholarship Program - 31 March 2012 - College freshman, sophomores, or juniors who are U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens.  Forty $1,000 awards will be selected at random.
  • Viral Video Scholarship Contest - 31 March 2012 - Created as a community service project to help educate the public on safe driving practices by awarding a scholarship for the best public service announcement viral video.  The video can cover any topic of public safety such as, but not limited to, safe driving, bicycle safety, or pedestrians awareness.  One $1,500 award.

APRIL DUE DATES:

  • Education-Portal.com Computer Science & Computer Engineering Academic Award - 1 April 2012 - Under graduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who have at least 30 semester hours still to be completed.  Students must be pursuing a degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, database management, computer networking, computer programming, and information technology.  One $1,000 award.
  • Education-Portal.com Liberal Arts & General Studies Degrees  Academic Award - 1 April 2012 - Under graduate students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who have at least 30 semester hours still to be completed.  Students must be pursuing a degree in the Liberal Studies, General Studies, or Humanities.    One $500 award. 
  • John L. Carey Scholarships - 1 April 2012 - Senior students obtaining a liberal arts degree and planning to pursue graduate studies in accounting. Must be a U.S. citizen.  Ten $5,000 awards. 
  • Minnesota Chapter of Health-care Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) - 1 April 2012 - Undergraduate or graduate students who are either Minnesota residents or who are enrolled in a Minnesota higher education institution.  Must be in a program related to the health-care information or management systems field.  One $1,000 award.
  • Nancy Lorraine Jensen Memorial Scholarship - 1 April 2012 - Full-time undergraduate women majoring in chemistry or physics.  Must be a member, or the daughter or granddaughter of a current member, of the Sons of Norway.  Award will be equal to at least 50% but not more than 100% of the recipient's tuition for one year.
  • Radio Television Digital News Foundation Scholarships for Graduate Students- 1 April 2012 - Students enrolled in or about to enroll in a graduate program and who are pursuing careers in radio and television news.  Two $2,000 awards.
  • Saint John's University Master's in Education Scholarships - 1 April 2012 - For students from Catholic colleges or universities who want to enter the teaching profession.  The award is for a master's degree in the Graduate Division of the School of Education at St. John's University in Jamaica, New York.  Two tuition-free scholarships.
  • Swackhammer Video Contest, The - 1 April 2012 - Individuals must will submit a video of no more than three minutes in length on the topic "What School Didn't Teach Us: The Truth about Nuclear Weapons."  Awards of $1,000, $300, and $100.
  • WyzAnt College Scholarships - 1 April 2012 - Any student who will be enrolled in a four-year college or university sometime between 1 August 2012 and 1 November 2014.  Must write an essay.  One $5,000 award, one $3,000 award, and one $2,000 award.
  • Major General James Ursano Scholarship Fund, The - 2 April 2012 - Dependent children, stepchildren, or legally adopted children of a Soldier on federal active duty, a retiree, or a deceased active or retired Soldier.  Must be under the age of 23 and unmarried. 
  • North Suburban Communications Commission Scholarships- 13 April 2012 - Applicants must reside in the cities of Arden Hills, Falcon Heights, Lauderdale, Little Canada, Moundsview, New Brighton, North Oaks, Roseville, St Anthony, or Shoreview and be majoring in mass communication, journalism, television production, or video engineering.  At least one $1,000 award.
  • Fleet Reserve Association Scholarship Program - 15 April 2012 -  Graduate and undergraduate students who are FRA members or the children , grandchildren, or spouses of FRA members or who are Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard personnel or the families of Navy, Marine, or Coast Guard personnel.  Awards valued up to $5,000.
  • Sell Used Books College Essay Contest - 15 April 2012 - Students who are over 18 and legal residents of the U.S.  Must write an essay.  One $1,000 award.
  • Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund, The - Need-based awards for graduate and undergraduate students who are actively working for peace and justice.  Awards of up to $10,000.

MAY DUE DATES:

  • Jane M. Klausman Women in Business Scholarship - 1 May 2012 - Women undertaking business studies.  Students must be in the second year of an undergraduate degree through the final year of a Master's program.  One $1,000 district award and twelve $5,00o national awards.
  • Women in Federal Law Enforcement Scholarship -1 May 2012 - women who are U. S. citizens and who are graduate or undergraduate students with a major in criminal justice, or related fields such as social sciences, public administration, computer science, finance, linguistics, chemistry, physics, etc.  Must have a GPA of 3.00 or better.  Several $2,500 awards.
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) Teachers Scholarships- 1 May 2012 - Undergraduate or graduate sstudents majoring in secondary education or a STEM field for the purpose of teaching STEM subjects in a U.S. middle or secondary school.   50 scholarships of $5,000.
  • St Cloud School of Nursing Alumni Scholarship - 13 May 2012 - The children or grandchildren of St. Cloud Hospital School of Nursing alumni who are enrolled in a program in the nursing field.  Applications are accepted regardless of the geographic location of residence.  One $500 award.
  • Evelyn Lenander Scholarship, The - 15 May 2012 - Students who have completed two years of college and are in a program leading to a degree in elementary education.  Multiple $2,500 awards.

SUMMER DUE DATES:

  • Automotive Hall of Fame Scholarships - 1 June 2012 - Eligible students will be graduate or undergraduate sstudents with a sincere interest in a automotive career.  Requires a GPA of 3.00 or better.  Number and value of the awards varies.
  • Betty Rendel Scholarship - 1 June 2012 - Undergraduates majoring in political science, government, or economics and who have completed at least two years of college.  Three $1,000.
  • Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Education Foundation Insurance Scholarships - 1 June 2012 - Students must be in a graduate or undergraduate program in actuarial science, business, economics, finance, insurance, management, risk management, or statistics.  Students must have a GPA of 3.00 and financial need will be considered in the awarding of the awards.  Thirteen $5,000 awards.
  • John Gyles Education Award - 1 June 2012 - Graduate or undergraduate students who are citizens of the U.S. or Canada.  Must write a book report.  One $500 award.
  • National Pathfinders Scholarship - 1 June 2012 - Awards offered by the National Federation of Republican Women to provide financial assistance to graduate and undergraduate students.  Three $2,500 awards.
  • Proof-Reading.com Scholarship Program - 1 July 2012 - U.S. citizens or legal residents who are enrolled full-time and submit an essay.  One award of $1,500.
  • National Defense Industrial Association Lawrence F. Skibbie Graduate Scholarship Award, The- 1 August 2012 - U.S. citizens with a stated interest in the defense or national security industry who are enrolled in or accepted for a masters of doctoral program in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics, or management.  One or more awards of up to $10,000.
