Environmental challenges, solutions, and justice do not have disciplinary boundaries. Our curriculum is designed to teach students to approach a particular topic not simply as a question of biology, politics, or theology, but rather to combine these (and many more) perspectives to better understand environmental issues in all their complexity.

Environmental Studies Major

(53 credits)

A sequence of required core courses for all environmental studies majors (25 credits) offers introductory knowledge on environmental issues. Skill development includes reading and writing comprehensively, understanding how to create or analyze data, and building research skills across a variety of disciplines. The remaining credits required for the major include a variety of options for gaining depth and breadth in a variety of science, social science, fine arts, and humanities electives and can be tailored to an individual student's interest.

Environmental Studies Minor

(24 credits)

Similar in design to the environmental studies major, students in the minor are required to take a shorter sequence of required introductory coursework, followed by a choice of electives to gain depth in a particular topic (science, policy, etc.) or breadth in topics across multiple disciplines.

Climate Studies Minor

(20 credits)

Climate change is the crisis of our time. The climate studies minor invites students to focus specifically on the topic of climate change through a diverse range of disciplinary lenses. Climate studies and seeking to understand and craft solutions to the global climate crisis, is a quintessentially interdisciplinary field that complements any existing major of study.
