United Nations Climate Change Conference

Be one of the few college students who get to be inside the negotiations that could determine the fate of our collective future! Students typically attend one of the two weeks of the conference. Conduct original research at the COP and share your research with the CSB, SJU, and broader communities.

  • Hosted by environmental studies professor Jean Lavigne, who will be accompanying the students to Baku, Azerbaijan

Important Dates

  • Application Deadline: Friday, February 23 at NOON. Finalists will participate in interviews.
  • Notification of acceptance no later than Friday, March 15, 2024. Students must accept or decline spot by Wednesday, March 20.
  • Enroll in ENVR 305: U.N. Climate Change Conference in the fall of 2024 with Dr. Corrie Grosse. This 2-credit course will (likely) meet on Thursdays from 11:10-12:30.

Scholarship

Dr. Corrie Grosse and Brigid Mark '20 published an article based on research they conducted at the 2019 United Nations climate change negotiations, which CSB/SJU students can apply to attend each year. The peer-reviewed article, “A colonized COP: Indigenous exclusion and youth climate justice activism at the United Nations climate change negotiations,” is published in a special climate activism issue of The Journal of Human Rights and the Environment.
