USE THIS MUG AND HELP SAVE THE EARTH!

• More than 500,000 plastic beverage bottles are used on our campuses in a typical year, generating over 31,000 pounds of plastic waste, much of which is not recycled.
• The best way to reduce this waste is to avoid disposable beverage containers by using a washable mug; recycling is only a second-best solution since it still requires energy to process and transport the waste plastic.
• Using plastic bottles costs you and costs the planet. Buying just one 22oz. bottle of pop each class day will cost you $90 and produces 4.5 pounds of waste plastic per semester. (Remember what that plastic was made from—oil.)
• Using this refillable mug instead will save you $54 a semester and generates no waste plastic. That’s a potential savings of over $54,000 and 4,500 pounds of waste plastic per semester if all first-year students participate.
• To encourage voluntary reductions in plastic bottle use, these refillable mugs have been provided to the entire class of 2007.  Special prices for refills have also been arranged at McGlynn’s and Sexton Commons:
