According to an article in the St. Paul Poineer Press, Yuko Taniguchi, CSB '98, was nominated for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize.

Department News

  • Professor Cynthia Malone recently had an article published in The Chronicle of Higher Education entitled "How to Get Greener Books."
  • Nikolas Nadeau, English major, won third prize in the 2008 Elie Wiesel Essay Contest.  The prize includes having his essay posted on the Foundation website (a link will be here when available), a monetary award, and a trip to New York in Fall 2008.
  • Alison Frank, English major, won the Encourage the Heart award at Inspiring Leadership 2007 Banquet 
  • Grace Brogan, English major, won CSB Student Employee of the Year

  • The English Web is an up-to-date online newsletter for current students, alums and future students.
  • The English Department offers a variety of scholarships including a scholarship honoring Sister Kristin Malloy.

Program highlights

  • English majors regularly intern at Graywolf Press and other companies where they use their reading, writing and editing skills every day. 
  • Faculty members who are engaged and productive in their fields.
  • Through the CSB Literary Arts Institute, English majors learn what it means to be a working author by taking classes from visiting writers throughout the year.

Overview of Program

  • Curriculum to include all literature written in English—e.g. works from India, Africa and the Caribbean
  • Expanded investigation into more literature by people of color and women.
  • Two concentrations: Literature and English-language arts.
