Selection of Cooperating Teachers

Cooperating teachers are selected jointly by the school district and the cooperating college, from teachers who are interested and willing to work with a student teacher. The minimum criteria, as suggested by the Minnesota Board of Teaching, are the basis for this selection. They include the following:

1. At least three years of successful experience at the appropriate level or in subjects to which the student teacher is to be assigned.

2. The cooperating teacher must hold continuing Minnesota teacher licensure, based upon a bachelor's degree, for the grade levels or subjects to which the student teacher will be assigned.

3. The cooperating teacher must have the ability and desire to work harmoniously and constructively with a college student.

4. Reasonable agreement with the teacher education philosophy and goals of the college attended by the student teacher.
