5-12 Education Minor with a Math, Science, Social Science, or Theology Major

Speech Requirement

The Speech Requirement must be fulfilled prior to acceptance into the Education major/minor in one of the following ways:

  1. A formal high school speech course in 10th grade or above with a grade of "B" or better. (Must be listed on the high school transcript.)
  2. COMM 111 Public Speaking (4 credits) or COMM 200 Public Speaking Basics (2 credits)
  3. Speech Adequacy Test (see Education Department Handbook, Section VIII)

NOTE: If a student takes the Speech Adequacy Test and does not pass, or if a student's oral communication skills are in question, a college level speech course will be required.

**English majors with a 5-12 Education minor MUST TAKE a formal college speech course. They cannot choose options 1 and 3 above.
