Areas of Specialty for Elementary Education Majors
Elementary Education majors are required to complete a specialty area for licensure in grades 5-8 or K-8 in one of the following areas: Communication Arts/Literature, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, or World Languages (French, German or Spanish). (Credits are shown in parentheses after the course title)

Speech Requirement
The Speech Requirement must be fulfilled prior to acceptance into the Education major/minor in one of the following ways:
- High School speech in 10th grade or higher (with a grade of "B" or better - must be listed on high school transcript)
- COMM 111, Public Speaking, 4 credit course
- COMM 200, Public Speaking Basics, 2 credit course
- Speech Adequacy Test (see Education Department Handbook, Section VIII)
NOTE: If a student takes the Speech Adequacy Test and does not pass, or if a student's oral communication skills are in question, a college level speech course will be required.)
