CSB Support Staff Committee Meeting
Wednesday, January 18, 2006
1:15 pm, Rainbow Room
Present: Jeanne Terres, Jackie Gertken, Al Rassier and Trish Doran.
Minutes: October minutes were approved. No one knew if minutes were taken at the November meeting when Trish was absent.
Joint Benefit Committee: Wayne Laudenbach reported on a new study on tuition remission. The committee is currently discussing the value of the remission. The “charge” to the support staff is currently $24,000.00 per student per year.
In addition, Wayne reported that the Presidents have approved a Simply Well Program. Employees will be screened and assessed and information will be shared with Health Care Providers. The program will begin in the fall and will, at lease initially, apply only to those on the college’s health plan.
The committee is also looking at creating a health reimbursement account to which both the college and employees can contribute. It would give employees more control over their money.
Finally, Wayne said that the college continues to investigate forming a larger group with other private schools in order to get better insurance rates. This, however, requires legislative approval.
Professional Development Report: No new information.
Support Staff Committee Changes: No new information
Anniversary Gifts: We continue to send out certificates. Dining will accept late certificates. Summer anniversary certificates will be sent out early.
Craft Sale-Nov. 16: The actual costs from the Craft Sale are as follows:
$156.00 Food (Administrative Staff will contribute $75.00)
$192.00 Advertising
$280.00 Amount Netted
Miscellaneous: Al had a meeting with Food Services to talk about the issue of equitable benefits/wages for Food Service employees. The hope is that these employees will eventually get larger contracts.
The Support Staff Committee will continue to discuss sponsoring a large event in the upcoming months. One suggestion is that we provide funding for a River Bats game on a Saturday night. An ice cream social is another option, but since that is pretty inexpensive, we should probably do something additional.
It was mentioned that perhaps the custodial staff in a particular building should fall under the Support Staff Representative for that building, rather than having their own representative.
Respectfully submitted by,
Trish Doran
