Wednesday, January 19, 2005
1:15 pm, Rainbow Room

Present: Al Rassier (chair), Jackie Gertken, Bev Overman, Judy Eggert, Joan Ellering, Tina Kortenbusch, Terri Johnson, Jeanne Terres, Becky Terwey, Mary Niedenfuer, Judy Bednar.

Al opened the meeting welcoming Judy Bednar from Human Resources.

Minutes

Minutes from Nov. 17, 2004 were approved. Al reported that Susan Palmer would like to receive copies of Support Staff Committee agendas and minutes.

Judy Bednar (Human Resources)

Judy had two items for the committee to consider:

  1. She asked for our support for a play by SST Communications on human rights and sexual harassment issues on Feb. 24 & 25. She asked that we help announce and promote it among support staff.
  2. The hearing panel committee for human rights and sexual assault/harassment cases needs a certain number of members from each campus group, including support staff. She would like us to announce to support staff members that they are welcome to serve on the committee if interested. They may not necessarily serve unless called to sit on the panel for sexual harassment cases. It’s a yearly commitment for which annual training is provided. Interested persons should contact Judy Bednar.

Reports

Joint Benefits – There was a discussion about proposals regarding dental/health care coverage.

Professional Dev – Terri Johnson reported that we have spent $1635 so far in 04-05. Three applications have been approved; three are pending approval.

Craft Fair – Jackie reported that $250 was collected from vendors for tables. There was discussion on results of the vendors’ survey and also whether it’s worth it to continue the sale next year. It was felt that it provides a good service to the college community. It was felt that having it earlier in the year and including the farmers’ market might draw more shoppers.

 Miscellaneous

Jeanne Terres talked about an event at SJU: Tracy Knoffla’s “Thriving in Chaos” on February 16, 1:30 – 3 pm in SBH. Do we want to co-sponsor a bus from CSB and help provide refreshments again this year? Al will look into having a bus pick up and drop off at the Chapel.
