1 p.m. Rainbow Room

Present: Sue Bechtold, Andrew Deuhs, Jackie Miller, Jeanne Schirmers, Jeanne Terres, Bev Radaich
Absent:  Dee Giroux, Janie Laugen, Donna Matthews

The meeting began at 1:05 p.m.

  1. Minutes
Bev still has not completed the August and September minutes. The October 4th minutes were approved as written.
  2. Old Business
    1. October coffeehouse  –
Members discussed the October coffeehouse.  Approximately 60 attended.  Jeanne Schirmers didn’t have the final tabulations on the cost but indicated with the cost per person quoted at $1.85, 60 attendees would bring the bill to $111.00.  In addition, she spent $20 for the mums that were raffled off.  Members felt the coffeehouse was a success.  A member reported hearing from a co-worker that this was a great event and should be repeated every month.  Members reported hearing several other favorable comments. Jeanne Terres mentioned that a SJU support staff employee asked her why those SJU support staff working on the CSB campus were not invited to the coffeehouse.  Members discussed the issue and decided to invite the SJU support staff who work at CSB to future coffeehouse events.  We will include a line on future announcement flyers asking our members to invite the SJU people in their area.
    2. Newsletter –
Bev reported she had not been able to put together the newsletter due to a heavy workload.  Jackie Miller offered assistance with the duplicating and labeling.  Bev will send an electronic copy of the newsletter to Jackie.
    3. December Event –
Members discussed a suggestion to have a holiday event where members prepare a holiday recipe to share and bring it along with the recipe.  Recipes are collected and gathered into a holiday cookbook for support staff.  Several members felt that this event wasn’t well received the last time the committee attempted it.  Members decided to see if they could get other staff members to share their talents, i.e., reading their poetry, playing an instrument.  A member suggested that we might invite lab school classes to sing Christmas carols.  Another member suggested that we ask support staff if they would like to sell their crafts or show their hobbies. Members decided that either November 28 or December 5 would be good dates for this event.  Jeanne Schirmers will check with Terry Bernardy to see if we may use McGlynns again.  Jeanne Terres will send out an announcement and ask for craft vendors and talent/presentations.  Members also discussed a time for this event.  Both 9-10:30 a.m. and 2-3:30 p.m. were mentioned.  Members didn’t make a final decision on the time.
    4. Market Information –
Bev shared an e-mail she received from Jan Jahnke (for  Herb Trenz) showing the support staff compensation analysis information that had been promised during the summer.  In addition, Bev showed members a copy of her reply to the e-mail asking questions to help understand the numbers given in the e-mail.  Bev did not receive a response to her request.
    5. Other -
Jackie Miller will gather information for a possible trip to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater or another location.   Andrew Deuhs will gather information on a casino trip.
  3. New Business
    Members had no new business.

The meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
