2000 Season Review

Michelle Swanson-Blaeser’s first year as head coach for the Blazer volleyball team saw a young squad make huge strides to build foundations for future successes.  The Blazers finished the season 14-18 overall, but had a very impressive 8-6 record in the MIAC.  The MIAC was loaded with talent this year as three teams were nationally ranked at some point in the season. The Blazers have to say goodbye to three excellent seniors Carrie Otis, Jody Barrett, and Alissa Rath, but will be returning a core group of players that should make the upcoming seasons for the Blazers exciting and successful.

First year Libby Homan, received 1st team All-Conference honors as an outside hitter and Junior Kelly Anderson, took 2nd team All-Conference honors as a Middle Hitter. Junior Marie Liekhus, led the team this year with 1,266 assists and Junior Jessica Slattery was a huge defensive factor in the conference success of the Blazers.

The Blazer season was highlighted with two wins over nationally ranked Saint Olaf.  The Blazers also scored a huge comeback victory over Concordia-Moorhead coming from two games down to win the match.  This showed the “never quit” attitude, which is characteristic of the Blazers.
