The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (8-3 MIAC, 20-9 overall) had two players honored when the 2007 MIAC awards were given out today. Sophomores Beth Hanson (Fairbault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) and Emma Jaynes (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing High School) were among the 18 players named to this year All-MIAC team. This is the first All-Conference award received by both Hanson and Jaynes. The decision to include these Blazers comes as no surprise to those who have attended a CSB match this fall. The duo consistently teams up to create a dominant attack only a handful of opponents have been able to stop this season.
At setter, Hanson has averaged 11.60 set-assists per game and has accumulated 1160 total assists this year. Her 11.60 average ranks third in the MIAC. Hanson is No. 2 in the conference in service aces, averaging 0.51 aces per game. On defense, she contributes 3.73 digs per game for the Blazers. Hanson was also named to the 2007 All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
As one of Hanson's favorite targets, Jaynes has made quite an impact from the outside hitter position. Jaynes is averaging 3.56 kills and 4.34 digs per game. She has compiled a total of 360 kills and 423 digs to spark CSB on both offense and defense all season.
Hanson, Jaynes, and the Blazers will take on Concordia-Moorhead as they host the MIAC playoff semifinal match tomorrow night (Thursday, Nov. 1) at 7 p.m. in Claire Lynch Hall.
