The College of Saint Benedict volleyball team (8-3 MIAC, 21-10 overall) was well-represented when the MIAC announced its 2007 All-Playoff Team earlier today. Among the six stellar performers selected in this year's MIAC volleyball were sophomore setter Beth Hanson (Fairbault, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) and first-year middle blocker Laurel Heggernes (Mora, Minn./Mora High School). The duo connected for numerous attacks that led the Blazers past No. 20 Concordia in the semifinal match and against No. 13 St. Thomas in the playoff championship.
Hanson finished the week with 94 set-assists as she averaged 11.75 assists per game. Her playoff high was 59 set-assists against the Cobbers. She also added 23 digs and 14 kills to help out CSB in any way she could in the two matches. Heggernes compiled 33 kills, including a 20-kill performance against Concordia. She finished the week with a strong .282 hitting percentage, including a .319 hitting percentage in the seminfinal match. She also tallied five blocks defensively.
Hanson, Heggernes and the Blazers are back in action at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 when they take on Bethel in the first round of the NCAA Division III national tournament at St. Thomas.
