St. Cloud Times, March 13, 2006 - College of Saint Benedict senior Jenna Wendorff finished eighth in the women's shot put to earn All-American honors during competition at the NCAA Division III indoor national track and field meet Saturday at St. Olaf College's Tostrud Recreation Center.
Wendorff recorded a throw of 43-feet 10 3/4-inches in the finals. It marked the third time in her collegiate career that she has earned indoor or outdoor All-American honors.
The top eight finishers in each event are named All-Americans.
"I'm happy," Wendorff said. "I guess I just kind of snuck in there. I feel very fortunate about the way things went."
Wisconsin-Oshkosh senior Robyn Jarocki won the event with a throw of 55-11-1/4.
Wendorff finished in ninth place at the Division III indoor meet last season, just missing All-American honors.
She recorded a throw of 43-2-1/2 in preliminary competition to qualify for the finals in ninth place, but she was able to move up a spot with her performance in the finals.
"Last year she finished ninth and I thinks she just made up her mind that wasn't going to happen again," Blazers coack Robin Balder-Lanoue said. "She was going to do whatever it took to make sure she got up there on the podium (as an All-American)."
