1989 Season Review

The 1989 College of Saint Benedict track and field team celebrated its birthday with a number of firsts.  The squad had its first All-conference award winners: Sarah Cremer, shot put, Mary Fehringer, high jump, Jamie Currier, discus, and Carla West, javelin.  The team also scored its first points at the conference championships.  They had a record number of first year athletes, 20, many of whom rewrote the record book.  Qualified a record number of 10 athletes in 12 events for the conference championships.  They also competed in the javelin, 400-meter hurdles, and 10,000 meter run for the first time.

And yet, probably the most celebrating feature of this young team was their respect for each other and the effort they made to see their teammates compete.  This enthusiasm undoubtedly was a contributing factor for not only the squad's individual success, but also the teams as well.
