Track and Field debuted at the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, February 13, at the Eric Liddle Games on the Bethel campus in St. Paul, MN. The Blazers competed in four indoor meets including the MIAC Indoor Track and Field Championships at Bethel.
Seven CSB athletes qualified for the MIAC indoor meet including middle distance runner Marcia Parra, a freshman from Alexandria, MN; Carla West, a sophomores from Alexandria, MN, in the shot put; Tanja Krohn, a sophomore distance runner from Le Center, MN; freshman middle distance runner Heide Stier, Alexandria; Colleen Cronin, A sophomore middle distance runner from Arden Hills, MN; and three athletes qualified in the 55 meter dash including Parra, Danielle Mische, a sophomore from St. Cloud, MN and senior Gretchen Schmidt from Stillwater, MN.
The squad competed in seven outdoor meets including the MIAC outdoor Track and Field Championships at Carleton. Six Blazer athletes qualified for the conference meet including Sue Lindell, a junior distance runner from New Hope, MN; Robin Balder, a freshman distance runner from Foley, MN; Jamie Currier, a sophomore from Hopkins, MN, in the discus; freshman Mickey Jurewicz, a discus thrower from Shakopee, MN; Gale Skinner, a discus thrower from Hayward, WI; and sprinter Marcia Parra.
Laura Brewer is the head track and field coach at Saint Benedict's. She is also the head cross country coach and is in her first season at the college.
