Good Turnout for Blazer Track and Field, 5th at MIAC Championship

The final day of the MIAC Track and Field Championships showed great results for the Blazers, as they finished in 5th place with a team total of 75 points. The Blazers took top spots in the distance events, as well as in the relay events. Day one of the MIAC Championship, the Medley Relay broke a school record by almost eight seconds. All around, the Blazers finished in top spots in all sorts of events throughout the day.

In the sprint events, first-year Abby Neigebauer (Waseca, Minn./Waseca H.S.) finished in 6th place in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.57. Fellow first-year Jillian Daleidan (Blaine, Minn./Blaine H.S.) took 6th place in the 400 meter with a time of 60:58, as well as finishing in 4th place in the 600 meter with a time of 1:38.59. Senior Kaylee Rasmussen (Waconia, Minn./Waconia H.S.) took 5th place in the 800 meter with a time of 2:22.01, as well as taking 6th place in the 1000 meter with a time of 3:02.95. First-year Molly Noel (Eagen, Minn./Cretin-Durham Hall) also took part in the 800 meter and finished in 9th place with a time of 2:26.49. In the 1,000 meter, first-year Ashley Irons (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls H.S.) finished with a time of 3:06.46 giving her a 9th place finish overall.

In the distance events, first-year Katy Torchia (Rochester, Minn./Lourdes H.S.) finished in 10th place in the one mile, running it in 5:33.50. Senior Kristin Haubrich (Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee H.S.) took 2nd place in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:38.03 and fellow teammate, sophomore Margot Branigan (Roseville, Minn./Roseville H.S.) finished right behind, taking 3rd place with a time of 10:39.22. Branigan went on to take 2nd place in the 5,000 meter, finishing with a time of 18:25.58. The 4x400 meter relay which is made up of Alyx Chapman (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater H.S.), Ashley Irons (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls H.S.), Kaylee Rasmussen (Waconia, Minn./Waconia H.S.) and Jillian Daleidan (Blaine, Minn./Blaine H.S.) took fourth place with a finishing time of 4:04.76. The Distance Medley Relay, consisting of, Irons, Chapman, Rasmussen and Haubrich took 2nd place with a time of a record breaking 12:28.27.

In the jumping events, sophomore Ali Galzki (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove H.S.) took 6th place in the long jump. First-year Jana Gracyzk (Lake Elmo, Minn./Stillwater H.S.) took 9th place in the pole vault event with jumps of 2.85 and 2.70 (9-4 ¼).
 
The 2008 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship will take place March 14-15 on the campus of Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
